Our commitment

Tom's Jr. Burgers is committed to making tomsjr.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

What we've done

  • Semantic HTML: every page uses proper landmark elements (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer>) and a logical heading hierarchy.
  • Skip-to-content link: a keyboard-accessible "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page.
  • Keyboard navigation: the entire site is operable with a keyboard. Every focusable control shows a 3-pixel focus ring — dark red on the cream background, and cream set inside the border on the red-filled buttons, so the ring stays visible either way.
  • Mobile menu: traps focus while open, makes the rest of the page inert, closes on Escape, and returns focus to the button that opened it.
  • Reduced motion: respects the prefers-reduced-motion media query and disables decorative animations for users who request it.
  • Color contrast: body text and link text meet the WCAG AA 4.5:1 minimum against our cream background, and control outlines meet the 3:1 minimum for non-text contrast.
  • Alt text: meaningful images have descriptive alt attributes; decorative images use aria-hidden or empty alt.
  • Form labels: every form field has a visible label, not just a placeholder. On the contact form, required fields are marked with a visible asterisk as well as programmatically. Validation errors are shown as text beside the field they belong to, never by colour alone, and the form is not submitted until they are corrected.
  • Status messages: each form has one live region using role="status" with aria-live="polite", so screen-reader users hear the result of a submission.

Known limitations

We test the site regularly, but accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we would rather tell you where we fall short than claim we are perfect. As of September 2026 we know about the following:

  • There is currently one main way to navigate the site — the menu in the header, repeated in the footer. We have not yet added a site search or a page-by-page index.
  • Some long pages, including this one and our privacy policy, are written above a lower-secondary reading level. We have not yet published plain-language summaries.
  • A handful of small links, mostly in the footer, are below the 44 × 44 pixel target size we would prefer — the footer navigation links are about 17 pixels tall. They are spaced far enough apart that no two can be hit by accident, which is how they satisfy the minimum target requirement, but we would rather make them bigger.
  • We have tested with automated tools and by keyboard, but we have not completed a full audit with screen-reader users.
